You can define the drop down on the List options page. You can choose between SELECT, COMPARE and multiple SELECT and multiple COMPARE in the search type.
The default is that it will use the CSR column itself on the listing to generate the drop-down - however you can redirect it to pick values from another report specifying the report + display and data values.
When no entries - it will allow you to use * for selecting all entries.
