Connecting Dynamic AI to Microsoft Access 97-2003

Use the database connection screen in Dynamic AI and select Access Database from the Type list.

Be aware that connecting to Microsoft Access 97-2003 is different than connecting to Access 2007 (please see separate topic).

Use browse to find and specify the database file OR type the full path to the file.

Browse will only be available when you are using Dynamic AI on the same PC as where you have installed Dynamic AI. If you setup connection on a Dynamic AI Server or Enterprise edition - be aware that you should specify the path as seen from the server.

Be aware that Access is a file-based database and that the windows user used by the Dynamic AI installation has sufficient (read/write) access rights to the file.

If your .mdb file is protected with a database password - please specify the password:

Some Access databases are defined with users and passwords stored in a MDW file. You need to specify the path the the MDW file as well as enter a valid user and password combination:

Test the connection by pressing the ‘Test Connection’ button.

Click SAVE to save the connection. Now you should see the database in the database Explore and be able to browse and use Tables and Views of the database.

ODBC/OLEDB driver

To get the connection to work, the ODBC driver for Access should be installed. This can be checked in the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> ODBC Driver.

Under the tab System DSN press ‘Add’. Check is if the MS Access ODBC driver is installed

If there is no ODBC driver installed you can download the MDAC client from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

This driver contains core Data Access components such as Microsoft SQL Server, OLE DB provider and ODBC driver.

Sample data

The DEMO optionally installed with Dynamic AI includes a sample Microsoft Access DEMO database (V6_Demo.mdb) connected and used for reports etc.
