Email security options?

Hi,

Our IT manager wants to disable SMTP email relaying and instead require logging in to our email server with a specific user name and password, and also to specify a specific port for submitting emails -- other than port 25.

Currently the only email setting I have defined under DAI System settings is the server name. It emails everything just fine showing the "from" address as the one defined in the user's Dynamic AI profile.

Are their options somewhere else in Dynamic to accomodate his wishes?

Thanks,
Bob

Wow, I'd forgotten that I used to be so informed!
Looks like it should work as desired.
Thanks for the reminder!
Hmmm...but he wants to clamp down on port 25 and use a specific port in the 500-range.
I'll test this tomorrow.

Hi Carsten,

I changed the server address to the one our IT manager would like me to use, where relaying is disabled and I added the SMTPUID and SMTPPSW parameters with appropriate values, and trying with and without the SMTPAuth / NTLM parameter, I get the following error when sending an email:
DAI_Email_Error.png
DAI_Email_Error.png (8.52 KiB) Viewed 11539 times

The same error info is captured in AI's log, but I want to remember the Agent program also writes an external log file, but I couldn't fine one -- so I'm thinking no further information was captured about the error.

Switching the server address back to the one where relaying is enabled -- and leaving the UID and PSW parameters in place, the email works.

Any ideas? Maybe its a port issue. I'm supposed to use port 587, but showing our IT manager this and mentioning that fact, didn't elicit feedback that port 25 is disabled.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Try setting: SMTPPORT

I'm pretty sure that it uses 25 when SMTPPORT isn't set.

Best regards,
Carsten

Explicity setting the port didn't work, but our system manager just informed me to use the same server I had been using all along and that the new server spec he'd given me only applied to client-side emailing that I use in my VDF applications.

All is working now with the authentication settings I added.

Thanks,
Bob
